Practical things worth knowing between booking and arriving.
Arrival
Ferries dock at Kamares. Many properties will meet you or arrange a transfer if you tell them your boat; ask when you book rather than on the day.
Buses meet most arrivals in season and run to Apollonia, from where the other routes leave. Taxis are few, so do not rely on finding one late at night.
Check-in and check-out
Times vary by property and are listed on each stay’s page. If your ferry lands before check-in, most places will store luggage.
Money and supplies
- There are cash machines in Apollonia and Kamares. Smaller villages may have none.
- Card acceptance is normal in hotels and most tavernas, but carry some cash for small purchases and beach kiosks.
- Pharmacies and a medical centre are in Apollonia.
Packing
- Shoes with grip if you plan to walk the footpaths, which are stone and uneven.
- A light layer for evenings, which can be breezy even in August.
- Reef-safe sun protection, and shade of your own for the unorganised beaches.
