Where to stay in Sifnos
The single decision that shapes a Sifnos trip is which village you sleep in. Here is how the main options differ, and who each one suits.
Start with how you will move around
If you are not hiring a car, stay in Apollonia, Kamares or Platis Gialos. All three are on frequent bus routes and have enough within walking distance for a week.
If you are hiring a car, the quieter villages and the north open up, and you can trade convenience for calm.
The trade-offs
- Beach first
- Platis Gialos or Vathi. You walk to the sand every morning, but you will drive or take the bus to eat elsewhere.
- Evenings and food first
- Apollonia or Artemonas. Best choice of tavernas and bars, and central for day trips, but not on a beach.
- Arriving late or leaving early
- Kamares. The port has its own beach and saves an anxious morning transfer.
- Quiet and views
- Kastro, Faros or the smaller settlements. Atmospheric, with fewer options on your doorstep.
A week without a car
Base yourself in Apollonia, use the bus to Platis Gialos and Vathi on beach days, walk the footpath to Artemonas and Kastro, and eat in the capital in the evenings. That covers most of the island comfortably.
